- The approximate date assigned to the bogus Zeno goings-on by antiquarians! Since the 1780s some commentators have argued that Henry Sinclair, earl of Orkney from 1379, travelled to Greenland and even the Americas with members of the Zeno family from Venice. Their idea is based on a hoax publication by a member of the Zeno family in 1558: he said that the Zenos met up with someone called 'Zichmni' in the North Atlantic. The antiquarians imagine that Zichmni was Henry Sinclair.
