- An unidentified vessel, 190 net registered tons, registered in Moss, Norway, Captain Fitty, and laden with a cargo of millstones, wrecked on the Swarf, at the SW corner of the Holm of Sandwick, Whalsay circa. 1650.
- Montrose continues his campaign in Scotland. The local gentry and Ministers throughout Orkney and Shetland signed a bond of allegiance.

Montrose fights the Battle of Carbisdale in Northern Scotland, using Orcadians and Scandinavians. After the Battle, Royalists flee by boat. Some of them escape to Holland, via Shetland on fishing boats.
