- The new Lerwick Parish Church - St Columba's Church was finished.
- Henry Cheyne of Tangwick, who later became the fifth Laird Cheyne of Tangwick, was addmitted a Writher to the Signet.

- The Resolution (1829), a galliot laden with timber, of Laurvig (now Larvik), Norway, from Drammen, Norway and for The Netherlands. Having been abandoned by her crew, she was found derelict and taken to Muckle Orie Geo, Fair Isle and sold at auction, but subsequently drove from anchor and was wrecked.

The Henry and Harriet, a barque, in ballast, of and from Whitby, England for Memel, Prussia (now Klaipėda, Lithuania) wrecked somewhere on Shetland known as Lambastiggie/Lamba Taing. Four crew were lost, the remaining seven or eight were saved.

Robina Hunter of Lunna, daughter of Robert (4) Hunter, sixth Laird of Lunna House, was born. After her brothers, Robert, Thomas and William, all died young, she became the heiress of Lunna House.
