- The Fishery Board of Scotland reported 134,187 barrels of herring cured. Only 19 vessels were fitted out for Faroe and Iceland fishing. The Spring Cod fishing was delayed by high winds until May. Decked boats numbered 227, 150 belonging to Shetland and 77 to incomers from the east coast.

- The Lizzie, a sail schooner laden with a cargo of timber, registered in the U.K. drove ashore derelict on Strandburgh Ness, Fetlar.
