- Hillswick Lighthouse was first lit.
- Holm of Skaw Lighthouse was first lit.
- Balta Sound Lighthouse was first lit.
- The Glitner, laden with a cargo of coal, from Liverpool, England and for Banff, Scotland went ashore at an unspecified location on Shetland during or before 1895. Believed to have been refloated, but eventual fate not recorded.
February
- 14th
The Alarm, a Voe owned wooden hulled sail smack, sank while laid up in Olna Firth with a cargo of coal on board, it is believed as a result of her hull having been cut by ice.
June
- Several warships of the German Fleet visited Lerwick.
August
- 30th
The Ward Hunt, a Mossbank owned wooden hulled fishing smack, drove from anchor and was wrecked in Lerwick Harbour during Force 9 NE wind conditions.
October
- 2nd
Great rain floods in Shetland. In Sandwick bridges, a mill, and a boathouse were washed away. Damage reports came from all over Shetland, including Fair Isle. Great flooding at Sandness.
November
- 19th
An unregistered wooden hulled trading sailing vessel, name not known, approx 1 Ton, owner A. White, Mossbank, Captain J. Sinclair, two crew. From Mossbank to Fish Holm, Yell Sound foundered near Fish Holm during S Force 5 wind conditions, with the loss of both souls aboard.

- 14th
The fishing boat Jessie sank off Oxna Island. Mr. James Jamieson, was later awarded a Silver Medal for saving two crewmembers.
