- The British 10th Escort Group (Cdr. Burnett; at that time partly based in Sullom Voe) operating north of Shetland sinks the German submarines U 1279 (3rd Feb), U 989 (14th Feb) and U 1278 (17th Feb). Probably the U 327(missed in action NE of Shetland since 30th Jan) goes to their account, too.

M/B Havøy I (H220AV), skippered by Edvard Stangeland, arrived in Lerwick with 7 refugees. - 20th
The Liberator ‚M’ (120. Sq. RAF) attacked and damaged U 296 west of Shetland. - 29th
M/B Elida, skippered by Peder Paulsen, arrived in Lerwick from Bergen.
U 1106 sank by Liberator ‚O’ (RAF Sq. 224) west of Shetland.

A Bristol Beaufighter X aircraft, RD423 of RAF 144 Squadron, returning from Norway, crashed near Sumburgh. It is not certain whether this aircraft crashed on land or in the sea.

VE Day. End of war in Europe. About 200 Shetlanders had lost their lives, less than a third of the number lost in WWI, but once again, a higher proportion of its population than any other UK county. German occupation of Norway ends. - 19th
15 surrendered German submarines passed close to Shetland.
U776 open to public in Lerwick harbour. - 26th
Prince Olav Slipway at Scalloway unveiled.

The Fort La Prairie, a British registered cargo vessel, wrecked at a position approx 0.5 miles SSW of Muckle Skerry, Out Skerries.
