The Soviet trawler Maia sunk off Fetlar. 13 crewmen were rescued by breeches buoy by 'Fetlar Auxiliary Coastguard'. - 16-17th

The Foula Mail Boat, Island Lass was abandoned in a damaged state during heavy weather, in passage from Scalloway to Foula. The vessel subsequently sank whilst under tow off Papa Westray, Orkney.

The Ocean Maid (PD391), a wooden hulled motor fishing vessel, of Peterhead, Scotland foundered at a position either 6.75 miles E by S or 6 miles SE of Noss.
September
- Decision by Lord Hunter that the St Ninian's Isle Treasure belongs to the Crown.
