The fishing trawler Sundari PD93 sank at a position approx 29 miles ENE of Sumburgh Head.

Ragnar Thorseth with the Viking 'Knarr' 'Saga Siglar' arrived in Lerwick. This was the first stop on a 2 year 'Around the World in a Viking Ship' tour.

Shetland Salmon Farmer's Association was launched at a meeting attended by 8 of the salmon farming companies .

The Searcher, a motor fishing vessel, sank after striking rocks near East Linga, Whalsay.

The Unity, a motor fishing vessel, sank at 60.45N, 1.26W, approx at 10 miles NNW of the Ramna Stacks.
