  The Peterhead fishing boat Boy Andrew, PD136, ran aground on Trebister Ness while on her way into Lerwick harbour, in darkness.

  Ninth Shetland Folk Festival begins

  The Fraserburgh, Scotland registered pair-trawler Majestic (FR194) overturned and sank approx 30 miles WSW of Sumburgh Head/Fitful Head, with the loss of five of the seven crew.

• Grantfield Stores, in the North Road, closes. Part of the premises were turned into an Indian Restaurant.
