The Miss Lucy II, a vessel registered in Britain, wrecked or foundered at 60.08N, 01.09W, approx on or close to the western shore of Bressay, within Lerwick Harbour.

The Northern Venture (FR 14), a wooden hulled motor fishing trawler, registered in Fraserburgh, Scotland, sank at 60.40N, 00.43W, approximately 5 miles ESE of Mu Ness, Unst. All of the crew were saved.

- Haroldswick Methodist Church, on the island of Unst, Britain's northermost church, was dedicated.

The Reliance (LK508), a wooden hulled motor fishing vessel, registered in Lerwick, sustained damage from her wound up propellor that caused her to spring a leak, and sink at 60.26N, 01.02W, approximately on or close to Lunna Holm.

The Sharon Rose (FR400), a wooden hulled motor fishing vessel, registered in Fraserburgh, Scotland, sank at a position given as 60.01 N. 00.21E, which falls approximately 43 miles ESE of Noss, Bressay. - Elsi Arrub returns home after a 5 year voyage around the world.
September
- The Whispering Hope (ME147), a wooden hulled motor fishing vessel, drifted ashore on to the Culswick side of the mouth of Gruting Voe after suffering a wound up propellor. She was subsequently towed off, but quickly sank due the extent of damage to her hull.

The Eastern European factory fishing trawler Borodinskoye-Polye wrecked on the The Unicorn in the north Lerwick Harbour. - 21st
The Destiny (FR139), a wooden hulled motor fishing trawler registered in Fraserburgh, Scotland, foundered at 60.18N, 00.47W, approx 6 miles SE of Whalsay. All of the crew were safely rescued from liferafts by the offshore survey vessel Kommandor Subsea.
