Aith, ( Old Norse : Eið = Isthmus ), is a settlement on the North coast of the West Shetland Mainland, approximately 21 miles from Lerwick, at the head of Aith Voe.
It is home to the most northerly lifeboat station in Britain, which was established in 1933. From here, the road to Vementry branches.
The prolific 20th C. writer and political activist John Nicolson hailed from Aith, his first book being entitled 'Sprigs o' Aithsting Heather'. He went on to become a major figure in Shetland life. His words are still sung annually at Up-Helly-Aa.
