The Australia a steel hulled steamship, 104.54 L x 13.1 B x 5.86 D metres, two boilers, 288 hp, 3592 or 3600 GRT, built 1892, Short Brothers, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, England, owner Ch. A. Theofani, registered in Kertsch (Kerch), Russia. (Today the Ukraine), Captain O. Feodoroff.
This vessel was sunk by the German submarine UB-62, Captain Bernhard Putzier, at a position given as 35 Miles NW of Muckle Flugga, Unst, on September 17th 1917. All of the crew are believed to have been saved.
The Queen Amelie was sunk in the same area by the same submarine on the same day.
