On 19 April 1991 the Bigga entered service, being the first true three lane ferry in Shetland.
The vessel is named after the island of Bigga in Yell Sound.
Bigga was first on the Yell Sound service until 2004, when the Daggri and the Dagalien arrived, then she becacame a spare vessel for a while.
Now, (2009), she is on the Bluemull Sound service.
