The Breid, a steel hulled steamship laden with a cargo of "props" (assume timber pit props), 70 L x 11B metres, 1062 GRT. Built in 1897 by Nylands Verksted, Kristiania, (Oslo), owned by A/S Borgestad (Gunnar Knudsen), and registered in Porsgrund, Norway.

This vessel was torpedoed with no warning and sunk by the German submarine UC-41, Captain Kurt Bernis, approx 10 nautical miles east or E by S of Noss Head on June 11th 1917, en route from Fredrikshald, (now Halden, Norway), to W. Hartlepool.
