Buness House
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Buness House is a 16th century listed building in Baltasound, on the island of Unst. The lairds of Buness have claimed that their lineage stretches back to Norse times: a family tradition says that Henrik Hendrikson was foud of Shetland in 1450, and that the estate passed through marriage to the Sandersons and subsequently the remarkable Edmondstons, a family whose members include Arthur Edmondston, Thomas Edmondston and Jessie M. E. Saxby.
Today Buness House serves as a Country House Hotel, hosted by David and Jennifer Edmondston.
