Category talk:Shetland Businesses
Your thoughts required !!!
This category was starting to look a bit sloppy, and the only way I can see it going forward is to make every business fit to a sub category, so this category will eventually become just a category index..
Does that sound OK?????
I think it is in line with the format which a visitor to the pages would expect to see for business listings, and because of that the sub categories would be best if they resemble those used in normal 'paper type' business directories.
Comments and ideas please..:-)

- Agreed - but try to avoid the "Shetland" running ahead in the names of subcategories because they will then all be listed under "S" what is somehow counteracting all attempts to sort it out. ... and, once finished and then knowing how it all works you may start on Shetland Attractions ;-) The same mass over there with double and tripple references to individual pages but empty subcategories ... :-D Islandhopper 02:12, 23 April 2007 (MDT)
Yes,,,, never thought I'd be tired of seeing the word "Shetland",,, but some days recently,, ;-)
I know that sorting out the businesses is going to creat a lot of new categories, but it looks like the only way.
Looking at other wiki sites has made me realise that we are very short on categories and have been dumping too much in general lumps..
And as for "Attractions",, you don't have to wait for me,, it would make a lovely change from Voe Graphs for you ;-)..

Major problem with Business Template
We've just realised that the "floatleft" command on the business template is causing trouble with the layout of some pages.
"floatright" would cure the problem,
BUT!!!
It would mean visiting every page which uses that template, and perhaps correcting as many as 75% of the layouts to suit the change.
Not looking forward to doing it, but it's got to be done, and there just ain't no easy way to overcome the problem.
Could be a weekend project, so if you suddenly see several hundred apparently meaningless edits, you'll know why. ;-)

- Well,, damned nearly 500 edits later, the job is about done and dusted. :-)
That could well go down in the Shetlopedia record books as the most edits in a day.
Along the way we've fixed lots of little bits and bobs with many of the pages, and identified a lot which we can enhance further. So apart from the required change, it has been a very worthwhile exercise.
There are, without a doubt, cock-ups. So please point out any that you see.
Now, for some relaxing edits to reduce the stress level. ;-)
