Charlotte Street, formerly "Garrison Closs" and "Charlotte Lane", runs steeply uphill from Commercial Street past the south entrance to Fort Charlotte, to meet with the north end of the Hillhead

Originally named Garrison Closs on account of its close proximity to the south side of Fort Charlotte, it was renamed by the Commissioners of Police in 1845 as Charlotte Lane, again after Fort Charlotte. This was modified again sometime during the 1880's to the present Charlotte Street.
