Community Councils
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
The former parishes according to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 lost their direct administrative function as part of the local government system of Scotland in 1930 when they were grouped into districts with elected district councils.
As a result of the administrative reforms of 1975 the districts were succeeded by the new local Community Councils which represent the administrative authorities at local level.
