The scattered settlement of Cullivoe is situated at the North East part of Yell, looking over Bluemull Sound to Unst. It has a fishing harbour, redeveloped in 1991, with a fuel supply and ice-making plant for the fishing boats, and also a small pleasure boat marina. Cullivoe was formerly the terminal for the crossing to Unst, but with the advent of ro-ro ferries, this facility was moved to nearby Gutcher.
The cemetery at Cullivoe is centered around the old ruined kirk of St Olaf by the side of Kirk Loch.
A short distance away, at Houlland, are the polytunnels which grow Shetland's only commercial strawberry crop. Beyond Houlland is the beach known as the Sands of Breckon, one of Shetland's finest beaches.
The Lastdrager wrecked on the Ness of Cullivoe on March 2nd 1653.
