Gilbertson Road
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Gilbertson Road runs south from the North Road, past the east end of Haldane Burgess Crescent, the west ends of Cheyne Crescent, and Saint Sunniva Street, to the top of the hill with the Gilbertson Park, Millgaet, and Bells Place on the left. From there the road continues downhill past Bells Road to the left, with Goodlad Crescent, and the Gilbert Bain Hospital on the right, to the junction with the South Road.
The southern part, from South Road to Bells Road was formerly called Hayfield Road, with the northern part, from Bells Road to North Road being called Middleby Hill. It was re-named by Lerwick Town Council in 1942 to honour Robert P Gilbertson who had given the Gilbertson Park to the town.
