Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
The Held (R26K) a Norwegian wooden hulled motor fishing vessel, built in 1944, 135 gross tons, registered in Karmøy, three crewmembers, sank at a position 20 miles offshore, while under tow to Lerwick on November 11th 1976.
A fire broke out onboard the vessel in the early morning, quickly spreading to engulf it. By 11.50am a RAF Nimrod reconnaissance flight reported the vessel on fire, and low in the water, with other Norwegian vessels in attendance, who had rescued all of the crew. At 4.50pm the oil field supply vessel Seaforth Warrior reported having the vessel under tow, and heading for Lerwick, however it subsequently sank at around 11.10pm.
The crew were conveyed to Aalesund onboard the Norwegian Rescue Vessel Hagbert Waage, to which they'd been transferred.
