The Helmsley (alternatively Hamsley), a wooden hulled brig, laden with a cargo of flax and tallow, 212 62/94 Tons Gross, registered in Bridlington, England, Captain Creaser.
In passage from Archangel, Russia to London, England this vessel wrecked at Sand Wick during a SE gale on November 9th 1817. One crewmember was lost.
A number of other vessels were wrecked at various locations around Shetland during the first two weeks of November 1817, including the Providence (1817), the Knaggs, the Caroline (1817), the Diana (1817), the Belvidera, the Li La Too Zee, the Christopher and the Camperdown.
