Note
This is a provisional page to communicate "tips & tricks" from "user to user" and which need not to be discussed extensively within the Shetlopedia Forum'.
The page may be used as a kind of blackbox to collect ideas for future help pages as well.
Adding pictures (1)
Please Note: Before uploading a picture, it should be re-sized to no greater than 135kb. This can be done using Windows Paint, and selecting the "Stretch/Skew" function, from the Image tab at the top of the Paint screen.
To add an uploaded picture to a page you have to type the the following string into the edit box of that page:
[[Image:NameOfTheUploadedPic.jpg|thumb|right|250px|add a short description]]
Where is:
- Image:NameOfTheUploadedPic.jpg = the real name and file spec of the uploaded pic (including mistaken typesetting if any); best is to use copy and paste the file name of the pic after upload.
- thumb = the command to show the pic as a miniature
- right = the position where the pic shall be visible (right=right side; left=left side of the page)
- 250px = defines the size (that is the width) of the thumb; standard used on Shetlopedia is 250px
- add a short description = any usefull information about the pic which you want to add; the text you put in here will appear below the thumb. Corrections/additions of/to this text can be made by editing the site again. Note: Never correct a mistake that is in the file name of the pic - It won't work!
Adding pictures (2)
When adding more than one pic to a side following a section of text then not all of them should not defined as "thumb|'left". That might confuse the machine and place the pictures where you don't want to have them. see here
Adding pictures (3)
When adding more than one pic to a site have a look at the pictures' format (width and height) before adding. Where possible and suitable pics with a lesser height than some others should be defined as "thumb|left" only. This might help to avoid too much / too big "white spots" on a page and / or a sometimes irritating layout where headlines are placed in a centred position next to the pic while the text of that section appears on the left side of the page. The problem itself could be corrected by adding more "empty lines" (returns) running before a sub title but this would create additional white spaces on the site.Note: The vertical space of a thumb is defined by the height of the pic plus the space for the explanatoty text added to the thumb!
