Hendra was built by McTay Marine, Bromborough, Scotland in 1982.
She was named Hendra after councillor Henry Stewart, (councillor for the island of Whalsay).
She has been on the Whalsay service between Laxo and Symbister since she entered service on the 30th of November 1982.
Recently she has been re-fitted with new engines, and the passenger accomodations has been refurbished.
