Henry Saxby
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
Dr Henry Linckmeyer Saxby, (b.1836), author of The Birds of Shetland, first visited Shetland in 1854, to help his brother, Stephen, collect bird specimens.
Returning to Unst in 1854, he married Jessie Edmondston (Jessie M. E. Saxby), and was the doctor for Unst for most of his time there.
The family moved to Inverary in 1871, where Henry died, in 1873, just 2 days after the birth of their sixth child.
His book, The Birds of Shetland, which soon became a 'standard read' for British ornithologists, was published in 1874, after being edited and annotated by his brother Stephen.
