Herma Ness
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
Herma Ness, (HP607175), is a large headland at the northwest corner of the island of Unst, between Burra Firth and the Atlantic Ocean.
The highest point on the ness is Hermaness Hill, which rises to 200 metres. The northern tip of the ness is the most northerly point of 'inhabited' Shetland, with only the uninhabited rocks of Muckle Flugga and Out Stack being more northerly.
Herma Ness is the site of the Hermaness National Nature Reserve.
Wilna Geo at the northern tip of the ness is thought to have been the most likely location for the wreck of the Ugland on February 17th 1820, and the Acasta foundered at an unidentified location off the ness during or before 1831..
