Horse Holm, as seen from Sumburgh Head.
The Horse Holm, referred to on maps [1]
as Horse Island, known to locals simply as Da Holm, and used as an alignment point by local fishermen for several fishing marks, lies about 2.3Km west of Sumburgh Head at the south tip of the Shetland Mainland, and at the southwest corner of the West Voe of Sumburgh.
At the north end of the holm is a rocky outcrop called 'Great Skerry', and at the south end the headland is called 'Hog of the Holm'. The holm rises to a maximum height of 40m.
The Voyager wrecked on the holm on August 13th 1885.
