Huxter is a small settlement at the southeast corner of the island of Whalsay, overlooking the Loch of Huxter to the south, and the Wick of Huxter to the east.
The number of houses in Huxter has more than doubled in the last three decades of the 20th century.
Huxter resident Mackie Polson, retired skipper of the Serene LK297 is one of the men who pioneered the expansion of the pelagic fishing industry in Whalsay, and Shetland.
