The Isabella, a brig, Captain Duthie, registered in Montrose, Scotland. This vessel departed Tayport, Fife, Scotland on the morning of March 11th 1872 in passage to Copenhagen, Denmark laden with a cargo of coal, and is reported to have foundered at an unknown position at approx 11pm the same evening.

It is not entirely clear from the available records, but it would appear she had a complement of eight, all of whom were saved. The Captain and four crew members having been landed on Stronsay, Orkney by March 16th and the remaining three crew being picked up from their small boat, in which they'd spent almost five days without food or water, to the east of Foula by a passing sailing smack, also on March 16th, and taken to Shetland.
