Jamieson & Smith Shetland Wool Brokers Ltd.is the largest buyer of Shetland wool from the crofters and farmers of Shetland. In 2006 they purchased 230,000 Kg.
The business, started in the 1930's by the Smith family of Berry Farm in Scalloway, is now owned by Curtis Wool Direct of Bradford, through whom most of the wool is processed.
Most of the wool is sold to textile manufacturers but some of the finest grade wool is spun into yarn for the Shetland knitwear trade.
