Jessie Nicol is the author of Sonnets and Secrets, Shetland Times, 2006. Born in Sullom in 1924, she first attended school in Bressay and Sullom, before finishing her education at the Lerwick Central Public School.

Following an accident in 1994, which impaired her mobility, Jessie was obliged to give up her favourite hobby of painting, and turned to writing, favouring the sonnet form, publishing regularly in Shetland Life.

Sonnets and Secrets collects her poetry and short stories. Her poetry also features in A Shetland Anthology.
