Jessie Saxby Shetlanders Cairn can be seen west of the A968, as it leaves Baltasound towards Haroldswick.
It is a stone cairn with a cross on top and a plaque with the words :
In Rememberance Of
SHETLANDERS
WHO GAVE THEMSELVES TO THEIR COUNTRY
DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918
All Suffered, Many Were Killed
"Greater Love Hath No Man Than This,
That A Man Lay Down His Life For His Friends"
This memorial was erected by Unst author Jessie M. E. Saxby after the First World War.
