The Labrador, a wooden hulled brigantine or schooner (the available records are in dispute), 94 tons, built Jersey, Channel Islands 1850, owner J. Herve, Paimpol, France, registered in Paimpol, France, Captain M. Fredinand or Castrop or Mesian (the available records are in dispute), five crew.
This vessel was in passage from Antwerp, Belgium to Sunderland, England laden with a cargo of foundry sand/loam, when she arrived at Dunrossness on November 18th 1883 with her sails in a poor state. She anchored in the West Voe of Sumburgh, but either later in the day of the November 18th or during November 19th a Force 9 gale came on from the SW, which she was exposed to, causing her to part from her anchors and drive ashore. All of the crew were saved but the vessel was a total wreck.
