Laureen Johnson, Shetland author and dramatist, has published fiction, poetry and a local history volume on Adie's of Voe, Inside the Postcard (2001).

While working as a fulltime teacher (she has now retired), Johnson produced an impressive body of work in recent years. Her novel Shetland Black (2002) established her as a prose writer of great verve and ambition, while Treeds (2007) collects her fine and richly textured poetry. She is a skilled reader of her work who has performed widely in Shetland, and beyond. Her poetry formed the basis for the 2002 production from Skeklers theatre, 'Circles and Tides'. Her work also appears Riptide: New Writing from the Highlands and Islands, published by Two Ravens Press.

As an editor, Johnson was jointly responsible for the anthology Still Life (Shetland Arts Trust 2003), along with Dorothy Sinclair, and she is currently joint editor of The New Shetlander with Brian Smith.

Laureen is active in the Shetland ForWirds group.
