Laurna Robertson, is a Shetland-born poet, now resident in the Scottish borders. Her primary publication is the book 'The Ranselman's Tale' (Shetland Publishing Company, 1990), an elegant dramatic poem about the wrecking of the El Gran Griffon - the flagship of the Spanish Armada - on Fair Isle in 1588. It tells the story of how Juan Gomez de Medina and three hundred troops landed on an island with considerably fewer inhabitants, yet did not take it by force, and indeed, on return to Spain, secured the release of a Scottish ship and her crew from the attentions of the Inquisition.
