Lerwick Town Council Election September 1847
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
The 1847 Lerwick Town Council Election occurred on September 2.
Limited information is available regarding Town Council elections between 1818 and the early 1870's, as all information was recorded in the council minutes - which only listed the winning candidates but not how many votes they received.
Until 1877, elections were held every 3 years (from 1820) and used the format which saw two Bailies appointed, and 9 councillors elected by popular vote. The councillors are listed in order of how many votes they received, however as there was no information available on vote counts, the candidates will be listed as being Unopposed.
