Rae Simpson is the first third-generation Jarl, his grandfather Tammie having been Jarl in 1968, and his father Mitnie in 1987.
Rae represented Sigurd "Snake-Eye" Ragnarson, the son of Ragnar Lodbrok, who his father Mitnie represented in 1987.

Bill Head and Jarl's Squad Banners
In something of a departure from the painted Bill Heads of the recent past, the 2010 Bill Head, designed by the Jarl and his wife Leeza, was entirely a work of embroidery. The task of transferring the original design on to work sized graphs fell to the Jarl's cousin Craig Robertson, thereafter the Jarl's wife Leeza, his mother Ann, along with Lara and Louise Jamieson took over to complete the finished work.
The Jarl himself symbolically made the first five stitches of the work on September 6th 2007, and over 18 months, and 2,448 hours of work later, again made the final five stitches of the 361,885 stitch work in April 2009.
After spending the day taking pride of place in its rightful position atop the Bill on the 26th, the Bill Head was returned to the Jarl accompanied by a "torch planting" ceremony in his garden on the 27th.

After having completed the Bill Head, the Jarl also had the same team craft four embroidered banners, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, which were carried by his standard bearers.

| Embroidered banner. Sigurd hearing the news of his father Ragnar's death.
| Embroidered banner. Building boats prior to seeking revenge.
