Malcolm Laing was elected as MP to represent the constituency of Orkney & Shetland on 9th June 1807, replacing Robert Honyman. He served until 1812 when he was replaced by Richard Bempde Johnstone Honyman.
Malcolm Laing, born in 1762 was a country gentleman and author from Orkney. Among other works he wrote a "History of Scotland from the Union of the Crowns to the Union of the Kingdoms". He was also credited with doing much to improve agriculture in Orkney.
Malcolm Laing died on 6th November 1818.
