Sir Malcolm Smith, Liberal Party, was elected as MP for the constituency of Orkney & Shetland in May 1921, in a by-election following the death of Cathcart Wason. He served until 1922 when he was replaced by Robert Hamilton.
Born in Hoswick,Shetland on 1st December 1856, he moved to Leith when young, becoming a successful businessman, trawler owner and fish merchant.
He was MP for Leith from 1914 to 1918 and was Provost of Leith from 1908 to 1917.
Sir Malcolm Smith died on 12th March 1935.
