Putting off in a boat and rescuing the mate and one of the crew of the schooner, Maria Key, which, in attempting to make Burra Firth, had missed stays, and had been driven on the rocks and become a wreck on 4 December 1862. The master and two of the crew had previously been washed off the rocks and drowned. William Wilkie and 11 other men, residents at Burrafirth, Unst were awarded 10s each.
