Market Cross

The Market Cross is the local name for the centre of Lerwick. It was originally the convergence point of several lanes in the oldest part of the town, and in 1838 become the official place for the publication of legal decrees. Previously all legal decisions were made and announced in the "Old Capital" of Scalloway.
It is also the gathering place for hundreds of revellers at New Year.
