Mossbank is a settlement in the north Shetland Mainland, on the south coast of Yell Sound, and which includes the settlement of Firth.
During the 1970's, with the construction of the near-by Sullom Voe Oil Terminal, Mossbank and the Firth area, just to the south, saw a massive increase in population, from 130 at the 1971 census, to over 1000 at the 1981 census, as accommodation blocks and housing estates were built to accommodate the construction workers.
Mossbank has a public house, post office, primary school, public hall, a kirk and a shop.
The most notable building in the village is the 18th century Mossbank Haa.
On the 21st December 1900 four boats and 22 men from the area were lost in a fishing tragedy which became known as the Delting Disaster.
Mossbank has built on its reputation over the years. It may be small, but it's mighty!
