The current Muckle Roe Bridge was officially opened by Councillor Drew Ratter on 3rd April 1999. The bridge was designed by Baptie Group Ltd. and built by Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd. for the Shetland Islands Council. Building work started on 11th May 1998 and was completed on 16th January 1999.
The previous bridge, which had been built in 1904, had been widened and strengthened by the Zetland County Council in 1947 and officially re-opened on 22nd October 1947.
The old bridge was located just to the east of the new bridge.
