The N. P. Jensen a Danish motor fishing vessel, built in 1973, 129 gross tons, four crew, sprang a leak and sank at aprox 6.05am on October 5th 1982, at a position approx 31 miles ENE of Sumburgh Head.

At approx 5.25am following the broadcast of a Mayday radio message by the vessel, the nearby stern fishing trawler Resplendent radioed that she was closing in on the casualty and that the crew were taking to the liferaft. By 5.50am a follow up message had been received confirming all the crewmembers were safely aboard the Resplendent, who conveyed them to Lerwick.
