Nesting
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Nesting is one of the old parishes of Shetland, the parish church of which stands some 10 miles north of Lerwick. Nesting was originally a separate parish from Lunnasting, with which it was later united.
Nesting proper includes settlements at Catfirth, Skellister, Freester, Benston and Gletness in South Nesting, and Billister, Kirkabister, Dury and Laxfirth. The population of Nesting in 1958 was 1549. Its southern reach extends to the Isles of Gletness, a famous beauty spot.
The authors James Stout Angus and James Hunter were natives of this parish.
