The Nordwind or North Wind, a steel hulled sailing barque, laden with a cargo of dressed timber and bagged cement, 1243 Reg Tons or 1242 Net Tons (the records are in dispute), built 1890, registered in Hamburg, Germany, Captain K. Gewald or Gerwohl, twenty crew.

While in passage from Gothenburg, Sweden to Melbourne, Australia this vessel drove ashore on Housay, approx 400 yards SW of Ubda, Out Skerries during Force 10 S or SE (the records are in dispute) wind conditions on December 16th 1906. Seventeen of the crew were saved, but three, comprising the Captain, carpenter and boy were lost. Much of the cargo of timber was salvaged by locals and used in local construction projects.
