Located at Latitude: 60º 30'N. Longitude: 01º 21'W, along the shores of the Bay of Ollaberry on the western side of Yell Sound, Ollaberry, (from Old Norse Olafrsberg, meaning "Olaf's Rock"), contains some of the best agriculture land in Northmavine, and is one of the more significant population centres in the area.
A Post Office and an attractive church and churchyard are located close to the old pier, in what is known as Lower Ollaberry. The area also has a Public Hall where most entertainments are held, a mini-market style shop, operated by a local community co-op, which sells road fuel, alcohol, gifts etc as well as general foodstuffs, is located just outside the old centre of Ollaberry, as is a garage business who undertake a wide range of motor and machinery repair work.
Several good quality holiday homes are available in the area all year round.
