A peaceful June evening at Ronas Voe, near the Hollanders' graves

Ronas Voe, (HU285822), is a narrow inlet, approximately 7 miles long, which cuts deep into the north-west coast of Northmavine, in the North Shetland Mainland, along the west and south sides of Ronas Hill, the highest hill on Shetland (450 metres - 1486 feet).

The Voe is skirted by spectacular cliffs composed of the same red granite, which forms the massive rocks of Ronas Hill.
On the south-west shore of the voe is the settlement of Heylor, and along both sides of the voe are the remains of fishing stations, including haaf stations from the 19th century and herring stations from the early 20th century.

The voe was also the site of a whaling station, constructed by a Norwegian firm in 1903.
