The Roskva, a wooden topsail schooner, 151 Net Tons, built 1874, owner N. Nielsen, Svendborg, Denmark, registered in Odense or Svendborg, Denmark, Captain Nielsen or Hansen, seven crew.
While in passage with a cargo of 130 Tons of coal from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England to Grenna or Elsinore, Denmark the vessel lost her rudder and was abandoned in the North Sea on December 25th or 26th 1876. All of the crew were saved and taken on board the French brig Melina of Gravelines, in passage from Gravelines to Christiansand, Norway, who herself, with the rescued crew still on board, had to seek shelter and repairs at Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland on January 3rd 1877. Having had part of her sails and bulwarks torn away, and taking water, as a result of heavy weather.
The derelict Roskva drove ashore and was wrecked at or near Mail, Cunningsburgh on December 26th or 27th 1876.
