The Rover, a wooden hulled sail barque, 23 L x 7 B metres, 165 tons burthen, built 1800, Captain Briggs, registered in either Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland or Leith, Scotland (the available records are in dispute). While in passage from Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada to Leith, Scotland, with a cargo of timber, comprising barrel staves and birchwood, struck the Heids o' Sheldigeo and foundered at Hesswalls, Fair Isle on either October 22nd or 23rd 1831 (the available records are in dispute). The sole survivor was the mate, named Burns. Part of the cargo was salvaged.
